4 Tips for When You’re in Career Crisis
It happens when you least expect it. One day you’re going along and all of a sudden you don’t get that promotion and you feel like a fool. Or worse yet you make a huge mistake and get fired. Worse still through no fault of your own you find yourself laid off because of budget cuts within the department. It doesn’t matter any of these things can cause a career free fall.
You could end up depressed and making bad things worse. The following are four ways to help you hold on until things turn around. First and for most take the situation to God this goes without saying and is the most important, so important that it goes without saying prayer will do more for those in distress than anything else that can be done.
After you pray, you’ll want to consider doing these four things.
- Make sure you are looking your best every day weather you are going in to that job where you didn’t get that promotion and you are disappointed or you are at home and think you have nowhere to go. You’ll want to make sure you wake up at the early and put on your make up get dressed as if you were going to work show up to work early ask God to show you how to be of service. If you are going into the office. If you are staying home you will want to go to the library to check out books on updating your resume and do industry research. You’ll want to county employment resources.
- You’ll want to network with previous colleagues to begin networking if you haven’t been networking throughout your career.
- You’ll want to spend time around others online and in person so get your LinkedIn profile up to date and begin to take classes and seminars. Take as many as may be appropriate and /or take a free class at a prestigious university some of the countries best universities have free classes that you can audit. This will keep your skills up to date.
- Consider volunteering this will give your days purpose and will bless you as much as you are blessing.
Keeping your career out of crisis is the ultimate goal but sometimes its out of your control. But making the most of a bad situation shows that you are a winner and will look great in an interview when you need to explain a break in employment or will look great during your next interview for that big promotion.
